Navy Pier
We decided to go to Navy Pier before the weather got too cold. We took the train into town and then caught a water taxi from the train station to Michigan Avenue so we wouldn't have to walk as far. As we got to the water taxi, we ran into some of our old friends the Soelbergs from MBA school, who were also in our ward. They also just moved to the Chicago area. It was crazy to run into them like this. We haven't seen them in over a year. It was fun to catch up and hear about what they were doing. After taking the taxi, we walked down to Navy Pier. It was packed. We just enjoyed the atmosphere. Tom watched a little of the US Open on a giant screen they had along the pier. Ainsley loved watching the boats out on Lake Michigan.

We let Ainsley pick any ride to go on at the pier, she chose the "Thomas the Train" ride. A year ago, she never would have ridden a ride like this alone. We were so proud of her.
Ainsley spent the whole time climbing along the railings at the pier. Tom is convinced she is going to grow up to be a rock climber like him. We'll see;)

After spending a few hours at the pier, we walked back to our favorite restaurant XOCO. We stopped along Michigan Avenue for a few minutes to take a closer look at the Chicago Herald building. It is one of my favorite buildings along Michigan Avenue because it has rocks or fragments from all over the world cemented into the walls of the building. I enjoyed walking around and reading where all of them are from.

Tom and I love this sandwich at Xoco. It is the Carnitas Alagoda. It is braised pork sandwich with pickled onions and black beans in a spicy chili tomato broth. Its amazing. We tried to recreate it at home. It was good, but nothing can compare. We also love their churros and authentic Mexican Hot Chocolate. If we didn't always have to wait an hour for this sandwich and sit in a tiny restaurant with no space for our stroller or kids-we would eat there everytime we went into the city!
