Videos

Tom and I bought a video camera a couple of months ago. After some trial and error this afternoon, we finally figured out how to download our videos to our new computer. Now I am experimenting on how to post them to the blog. So here are two short clips we took this afternoon of Ainsley.

Clear Creek Trail

I've been trying to go on more walks now that I am feeling better. I discovered a fun little trail right behind my house that has a beautiful archway of trees. Last week I went on another fun walk on the other side of town. I was trying to meet up with the Kelley Kids-a group from the MBA Partner's Club but sadly I was the only one who showed up...so I decided to go on the walk by myself. It was beautiful! I think the thing I like best about Indiana is the trees. I miss the mountains, but the trees help make up for that. I can't wait for them to start turning colors. It is going to be gorgeous!
It has been so hot since we've been here, but suprisingly when we started the walk, it was cold so I bundled Ainsley up...but by the end of the walk, the hat was off.

Hoosier Daddy?

Tom and I are proud to be Hoosiers now that we are living in Indiana. But what is a "Hoosier?" We wondered the same thing. The welcome committee in our ward gave us a sheet with possible explanations because the exact meaning of the term remains a mystery. Many believe that the word comes from pioneers greeting night callers with "Who's yere?" Others think it comes from "Hoosier's Men" in reference to laborers for an early Indiana contractor named Sam Hoosier. Still others trace the word's orgin to "husher," a term applied to men (usually river boat workers) who were able to "hush" any challengers because of their strenth. The theory favored by James Whitcomb Riley, the Hoosier poet, maintained that the word came from the pugnacious habits of Indiana's settlers. when fighting, they bit off the ears of their opponents. A settler coming into a tavern the morning after a fight, seeing an ear on the floor, would say "Whose ear?" and this led to the term "hoosier."

Which theory is correct? You can choose your favorite.

Happy 4 Month Birthday Ainsley!!!

Ainsley is four months old ! The time has flown by-I can't believe it has been four months already. Our lives have changed so much in that time but it has been such a blessing and we appreciate all of the support since she has been born. Here are some fun pictures of her over the last couple of months that I found on my camera. Hope you enjoy them!!!

Nashville, IN

We have been really lucky to have my mom here visiting again, unfortunately she had to come because I got really sick. I developed an abscess of fluid in my liver from my previous surgery which made me violently ill and had to be hospitalized. They were able to drain the abscess and I am happy to report I am feeling the best I have since my surgery. I thought the pressure and soreness I had been feeling the past few weeks was from taking care of Ainsley on my own for the first time, but no-it was the abscess. Now that it is drained, I am feeling great. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and another CT scan ahead of me, but hopefully this will be the end of my troubles.
We were happy to have my mom here visiting and taking care of me again for a week. I didn't think I would get to see her for a few months and so although the circumstances weren't ideal, we were happy to have her here. On her last day, we took a little day trip to a tiny artist colony about 20 miles from Bloomington. It is called Nashville and it has become a quaint tourist trap. There were tons of fun little craft and souvenir shops. It is also known for its fudge and carmel corn. One shop we went in had 24 different flavors of fudge-we bought "Cookies and Cream" fudge. Boy was it sweet-one tiny bite gave you a sugar high. I think it will take us a few weeks to finish it off. We had a great time window shopping, strolling through the town, and eating the treats.

Some of the fudge flavors included:Black Forest, Dreamsicle, Pumpkin, German Chocolate, Penuche, Maple Pecan, Vanilla Pecan, Cookies and Cream, etc. The carmel corn had some strange flavors too-I thought Dill Pickle sounded the most interesting but they also had Chicago Mix?, Cheddar, Cotton Candy, Island Ranch, Vanilla Nut, Toffee, Confetti, Butter Rum, Carmel Pecan, and more.

I liked this bench where we ate our fudge

We had to register our car after we moved here...no more Utah plates. So sad!The last place we went was this ice cream shop where Mom and I had local Brown County Peach Icecream. It was delicious!!!
